Commuters, rejoice – it looks like we might be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel for roadwork – at least on John Sims Parkway – shortly. According to Niceville Public Works Director Jonathan Laird, there will still be a couple more delays. While Laird and the City are not responsible for the construction on John Sims, technically a state highway, they get regular updates.
Laird says the contractor in charge of the upgrades to John Sims was supposed to finish all construction by April 11th. That’s not going to happen, said Laird, but he doesn’t believe the Florida Department of Transportation will give the contractor the 95-day extension they’ve requested – meaning the contractor will be under the gun to finish the road.
Laird also acknowledged that upgrades to SR 85 will end on April 25th if everything stays on schedule.
This project includes sidewalks and resurfacing on the roadway.
If your commute takes you anywhere near Palm Boulevard – get ready for delays in the next couple of weeks.
According to Niceville Public Works Director Jonathon Laird, contractors will begin repaving work on Palm Boulevard from Bayshore all the way to John Sims Parkway, starting April 10th.
The project is supposed to take about three weeks once it begins – but the contractor is currently working on a separate project, which could delay the project further.
This project was supposed to begin earlier this year, but has not because of delays on other projects for the city’s contractor.
