FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A Fort Walton Beach teenager has earned Scouting’s highest honor while leaving a lasting mark on a beloved city park.

Andrew Dali, 17, of Scouting America Troop 529, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout after leading the construction of two permanent concrete chess tables and benches at Ferry Park, creating a new gathering space for chess players and park visitors alike.

The project, completed as part of the rigorous Eagle Scout requirements, provides a unique recreational opportunity focused on strategy, learning, and community interaction. Designed to withstand the elements, the tables are intended to serve residents and visitors for generations.

Andrew’s project brought fellow Scouts together to plan, design, and execute the build, demonstrating leadership, organization, and perseverance — hallmarks of the Eagle Scout rank.

“Andrew has grown into an incredible young leader over the years, and we are very proud of his accomplishment,” said Troop 529 Scoutmaster Chris Cutler.

The new chess area complements Ferry Park’s existing amenities by offering a reflective, mentally engaging activity that welcomes both experienced players and newcomers to the game.

Fort Walton Beach City Councilman Payne Walker, who followed the project from its earliest stages, praised Andrew’s dedication and attention to detail.

“Andrew is an outstanding young man,” Walker said. “The designing, planning, and execution were impressive. His dedication and persistence created a project that will live on for generations at a public park.”

Andrew began his Scouting journey more than 11 years ago as a Cub Scout and progressed through the program while developing leadership skills rooted in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The Eagle Scout rank represents the culmination of that journey and a commitment to service above self.

“I love seeing individuals caring so much for their communities and taking action on their own to give back,” Walker added. “Andrew once again demonstrates why becoming an Eagle Scout is such an honor.”

Eagle Scouts have gone on to make lasting impacts in fields ranging from science and entertainment to public service, including Neil Armstrong, Steven Spielberg, Mike Rowe, Zach Galifianakis, and President Gerald Ford.
