FORT WALTON BEACH — The Ground Up Project is preparing for a busy fall packed with fundraisers and volunteer opportunities as the nonprofit continues its mission of creating long-term residential and respite solutions for adults with autism.
Following the close of VIP ticket sales for its upcoming Pearls & Prosecco Handbag Bingo event, the organization says general admission tickets remain available for community members who want to attend what organizers describe as “a really amazing event.”
Executive Director Lisa Pitell also shared several additional opportunities for the community to support the nonprofit over the coming months.
In September, The Ground Up Project plans to promote its “18 for Life Beyond 18” campaign during a fundraiser at Basil & Baxter’s. Additional details about that event are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The organization’s annual 5K returns to Bluewater Bay on Saturday, Oct. 3. The event, now in its third year, serves as one of the nonprofit’s signature fundraisers. Organizers are also looking for volunteers to help with race-day activities.
Music fans will have another opportunity to support the organization on Thursday, Oct. 15, when local favorite The Mulligans perform a benefit concert at Jake & Henry’s in downtown Fort Walton Beach. Pitell said the event is expected to be a fun evening while raising funds for the nonprofit’s programs.
“We appreciate any opportunity to get the word out about our fundraisers and to get people involved with our organization,” Pitell said.
The Ground Up Project also continues expanding services for local families. Recent updates include new drop-in hours at The Resting Tree respite center and the acceptance of Florida’s CDC+ funding program, providing additional options for families seeking services.
The nonprofit’s mission is centered on providing respite care and developing residential solutions for adults with autism, emphasizing that support needs continue long after individuals turn 18.
All officers and directors of The Ground Up Project serve as volunteers and receive no compensation, with all donations directed toward programs and the organization’s capital campaign.
