🚦 Speed cameras will activate Aug. 11 in school zones across Fort Walton Beach

🏫 Nine schools affected, with enforcement hours tied to each school’s daily schedule
FORT WALTON BEACH — With students heading back to class on Monday, Aug. 11, city officials are reminding drivers that automated speed enforcement cameras will be active in school zones across Fort Walton Beach, including at nearly a dozen public and private schools.
The Photo Speed Enforcement system, operated by the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, uses radar technology and cameras to identify drivers exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 10 mph. After verification by law enforcement, a $100 civil citation is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.
The system is designed to slow down traffic during critical hours when students are arriving and leaving school. It will operate 30 minutes before school starts, throughout the school day, and 30 minutes after dismissal. Since school schedules vary, drivers are advised to remain vigilant throughout morning and afternoon hours.
“It is the motorist’s responsibility to adhere to the speed limit of the road they’re traveling and to reduce their speed to the posted limit applicable during school zone hours,” the city said in a news release.
Photo Speed Enforcement is active near the following campuses within Fort Walton Beach:
