Okaloosa County’s rising fifth graders will have a chance to learn more about high-paying jobs in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) fields – thanks to a donation of $5,000 from The Florida Power and Light (FPL) Company.

Students will learn about careers in coding, construction, biomedical, automotive, welding, culinary, entrepreneurship, digital design and cosmetology fields at the camps.

According to a release from the Okaloosa County School District, the donation will allow an expansion of the courses students can take at the camp this summer. It’ll also pay for teacher stipends, materials, supplies snacks and t-shirts for camp participants.

“We’re excited to support the district’s summer camp program that provides local students with experience to help spark their interest in careers that fill critical needs within the workforce,” said Okaloosa Superintendent of Schools Marcus Chambers.

This donation follows a $20,000 donation in December of 2022, which went to support the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation.
