The heat was on inside Eglin Air Force Base’s historic King Hangar last week as weapons load crews from the 96th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron went head-to-head in the unit’s second-quarter competition.
The Blue and Red teams competed in a timed test of skill and precision, preparing, lifting and loading bombs and missiles as they worked through the competition under sweltering conditions.
The Blue team finished the competition first, but finishing first does not necessarily mean taking home the top honor.
The overall winner will be announced during the squadron’s quarterly awards ceremony.
Weapons load crew competitions are designed to test the speed, accuracy, and teamwork required to safely prepare aircraft weapons for missions. The events allow Airmen to demonstrate the skills they rely on during real-world operations while competing against their fellow crew members.
The second-quarter competition brought that challenge into the historic King Hangar, where the teams worked through the heat as they raced to complete their tasks.
