Eglin Issues a New Gulf Warning Ahead of Munitions Testing

💥 Eglin Air Force Base will conduct munitions testing June 1-6 in the Gulf of America.

🚤 Boaters and vessels must avoid the designated hazard zone south of Destin.

📻 Safety advisories will be broadcast on Marine Channel 16 and on HF at 2182 kHz.

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Residents and boaters along the Emerald Coast may hear increased military activity next week as Eglin Air Force Base conducts munitions testing in the Gulf of America.

According to a release from the 96th Test Wing Public Affairs Office, the testing is scheduled for June 1 through June 6 between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Officials say all vessels must stay clear of the designated hazard zone during the testing period. The restricted area begins about 10 nautical miles south of Destin East Pass and extends roughly 16 nautical miles northwest toward Santa Rosa Island.

Eglin officials said advisories and Local Notice to Mariners broadcasts will air on Marine Channel 16 and HF upper sideband 2182 KHZ through the Eglin Joint Test and Training Operations Control Center.

The testing is part of ongoing military operations and weapons evaluation activities conducted from Eglin Air Force Base and the Gulf Test Range.
