Eglin Exercise to Close General Bond Boulevard on December 11.

A major joint mass casualty exercise simulating an airline crash will be conducted Dec. 11 by the 96th Test Wing in partnership with the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. The exercise will result in the closure of General Bond Boulevard from 8 a.m. to noon.

The exercise, which aims to test the wing’s ability to coordinate emergency response efforts across multiple agencies, will also serve as a required tri-annual review of the airport’s emergency action plan. Participants include personnel from Eglin AFB, local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, medical groups, and federal agencies such as the FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Motorists in the vicinity of General Bond Boulevard and Highway 85, as well as near the airport’s cargo area, may observe smoke, simulated casualties, and emergency vehicles responding as part of the exercise. Nearby medical facilities, including the 96th Medical Group and HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital, will participate by treating individuals with simulated injuries.

The 96th TW Safety Office and the 96th Force Support Squadron will conduct simulated search and recovery operations during the exercise.
