Former Marietta (Georgia) Head Football Coach Richard Morgan will take over the Niceville High School Football Program after Grant Thompson’s resignation earlier this year.

“Coach Morgan’s list of achievements and accomplishments in high school football is incredible,” said Niceville High School Principal Charlie Morello, “Coming out of the interviews, he was the unanimous number one choice of the NHS Football Steering Committee and we are lucky we landed him.

Morgan has a Georgia High School Football Title to his name and was unemployed after announcing his resignation at the Metro Atlanta powerhouse in November 2024.

According to Niceville High School’s social media, Morgan posted a 48-57 record in eight seasons at Marietta, according to On3 Sports. Morgan stood on the mountaintop as a state champion in 2019. It was the school’s first title in football since 1967.

After earning his state title with the Blue Devils in 2019, Foster and his team compiled a 20-36 record, according to MaxPreps.

According to stats posted on Niceville High School’s social media, Morgan has three state championships, has helped 185 players compete at the college level, and has seven NFL players who played for him.

Niceville Stats

Niceville hasn’t missed a playoff appearance since 2001 – meaning Morgan’s first duty will include extending the streak past the quarter-century mark.

Last year, Niceville made it to a triple-overtime loss in the Final Four to Lakeland. Their only other loss in 2024 came to District Rivals Mosley, which former Niceville Assistant Tommy Joe Whiddon led.
