Choctawhatchee High School and the Okaloosa County School District will officially unveil a new totem pole on Friday, October 10, as part of the school’s Homecoming 2025 celebration.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the school’s campus, located at 110 Racetrack Road NW in Fort Walton Beach. District leaders, students, and community partners are expected to attend the ceremony, which is open to the public and media.
The totem pole, which stands 11 feet tall and weighs about 250 pounds, was first revealed privately in June, when it was installed on the Choctawhatchee High campus. Made of polyresin, the pole was created to honor more than 70 years of school tradition and spirit. School officials describe it as a permanent marker of the school’s history and its role in the community.
The October unveiling will be the first time the public has had an opportunity to see the totem pole as part of a formal ceremony. It will serve as one of the highlights of Choctawhatchee’s Homecoming week, which features events for students, alumni, and supporters of the school.
The district has asked those planning to attend to confirm in advance by emailing catherine.card@okaloosaschools.com.
