Brother of Slain Hurlburt Airman Roger Fortson Shot and Killed in Atlanta

The younger brother of a Hurlburt Field Airman killed by a former Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy in May has been shot and killed in DeKalb County, Georgia – a part of the Metro Atlanta area.

SrA Roger Fortson was shot and killed by Former Okaloosa County Deputy Eddie Duran. Duran was terminated by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office soon thereafter. Ginger Bowden Madden, the State Attorney who represents Okaloosa County has not filed charges in the shooting death.

Ben Crump, the Fortson family attorney, said in a statementThe Fortson family is battling the loss of yet another young member of their family. This has been an incredibly challenging time for them with the loss of Roger. Losing the life of yet another young family member – a mere child – has been an absolute devastation. We are asking the media and the public for privacy and space during this impossible time.

Fox 5 Atlanta reports 16-year-old Andre Fortson was shot and killed in a breezeway of an apartment complex where he lived. The Atlanta-based television station says local law enforcement have not named any suspects in the shooting. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports thatJuly has been an especially violent month for teenagers in Atlanta. At least seven others have been shot across the city, with four of them dying. Officials have not said if they know what is behind the recent shootings or if any are connected.”
