After Dark at Eglin: The Critical Training You’ll Hear

Eglin Air Force Base — Residents across the Emerald Coast may notice an increase in aircraft activity in the evening hours over the next three weeks as night flying operations ramp up across the Eglin range.

According to base officials, the 58th and 60th Fighter Squadrons will conduct nighttime training missions from April 6 through April 23. The operations are a routine but essential part of maintaining combat readiness, ensuring pilots are fully prepared to operate in low-light and nighttime conditions.

For the first two weeks, flights are scheduled between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. During the third week, operations will shift slightly later, running from 8:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.

While the sound of jet engines after dark may be noticeable for nearby communities, military officials emphasize that night flying is critical to mission success and national defense.
