At first blush, thanks to early votes and mail-in ballots – it seems that Jimmy Patronis, the former CFO of the State of Florida and Donald Trump’s pick to succeed Matt Gaetz in Congress, has an insurmountable lead for the other candidates in the field to overcome.

As of 7:15 P.M., Patronis had more than two-thirds of the counted votes across all four counties in the election.

In a distant second place stands Dr. Joel Rudman, who has about nine percent of the vote. Aaron Dimmock, a candidate who ran against Gaetz last summer, has about seven and a half percent of the vote.

Northwest Florida will choose a Republican candidate for United States Congress this evening when they go to the polls for the primary election called by Governor Ron DeSantis in the wake of Former Congressman Matt Gaetz’s resignation.

Gaetz withdrew his nomination to be Donald Trump’s Attorney General after a immediately before a House Ethics Report was released to the public. Gaetz is currently the subject of a Florida Bar investigation into his conduct while he served as a Congressman.

A total of 10 candidates have put their name in the hat to serve as the Republican nominee that will face Democrat Gay Valimont and three write-in candidates on April 1st in the general election.

The winner of the general election in April will fill Gaetz’s seat for the rest of his two year term.
