The North Bay Fire Department, The Okaloosa County Sheriffโ€™s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol all responded to an accident between a diesel tanker truck and a commuter car Monday afternoon on State Route 20 in Bluewater Bay.ย

The accident took place to the west of the SR-293 overpass.ย

ย

Eastbound lanes on State Route 20 were closed to travel for several hours while diesel fuel thatย  leaked onto the roadway was cleaned up.

ย

Ryan Adair, the C-Shift Battalion Chief of the North Bay Fire Control District, which protects the area, said somewhere between 20 and 40 gallons of diesel spilled onto the roadway. The fire rescue crew was able to dike and dam the spill in order to prevent the diesel fuel from leaking into a nearby storm drain and out into Choctawhatchee Bay.ย

ย

Ferrovial cleaned up the mess by putting down absorbent on the road to reduce the chance the diesel fuel would spill into the bay.ย ย

ย

Adair noted that State Warning Point, the agency that deals with spills that could affect people or the environment, had been notified of the spill. The Florida Department of Emergency Management was also notified – which is standard procedure for fuel spills.ย

ย

All lanes are open for travel now.ย
