The Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation, a significant player in local philanthropy, announced Monday it has changed its name to the Northwest Florida Children’s Foundation. According to a statement, the rebranding reflects the organization’s evolution from a single fundraising event into a year-round foundation. The group claims to have donated more than $42 million to regional charities since it was founded in 2005.
Leadership says the new name is meant to shift public perception away from its high-profile wine auction and toward its broader grant-making and coordination efforts. “The auction is the means, not the mission,” said Board Chairman Tiffany Edwards. The organization asserts it is now focused on building an “infrastructure of care” by fostering collaboration between the nonprofits it funds. The foundation’s signature events, the Destin Charity Wine Auction and the Harvest Wine & Food Festival, will reportedly continue under their existing names.
This year, the organization reports it granted $3.25 million to 16 charities across Okaloosa and Walton counties. The recipients address a range of issues cited by the foundation, including affordable housing, healthcare, abuse prevention, and mental health. The name change comes as the foundation says it is adapting its strategy to meet the growing needs of a rapidly developing region.
