NICEVILLE — After more than 80 years serving Niceville and the surrounding community, Generations United Church is beginning a new chapter under a new name: One Church.
The church officially adopted the name One Church on Sunday, August 16. Church leaders say the change represents an evolution of the congregation’s identity and vision rather than the arrival of a new church in Niceville.
“This is not a new church coming to Niceville. This is the same church beginning a new chapter,” said Dr. Tommy Brown, lead pastor of One Church.
The congregation’s roots stretch back more than eight decades. Originally founded as Niceville Assembly of God, the church became Generations United Church in 2015 before adopting the One Church name in 2026.
Brown said the new name reflects the church’s goal of reaching “just one more” person.
“Generations United Church describes who we are—a church of generations united,” Brown said. “One Church describes not only who we are, but also why we are here. We are one church seeking to reach just one more.”
According to the church, the new name is intended to reflect its vision of seeing one more person encounter God, experience belonging and make a difference.
Church leaders also say the name represents their belief that people from different generations, backgrounds and life experiences can find unity and purpose together through Jesus Christ.
“One Church is more than a name; it is a declaration of who we want to be,” Brown said.
While the name is changing, church members and visitors can expect the same congregation, worship services and regular programming.
The church will continue to offer worship, biblical teaching, children’s and student ministries, opportunities for faith development, fellowship, and community service.
Residents may have already noticed landscaping and facility improvements at the church’s Niceville campus near the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 85. Exterior signage, digital platforms and ministry materials will be updated to reflect the new name over the coming weeks.
The church said its worship times, location and regular ministry programming will remain unchanged.
For Brown, the transition also represents an opportunity to recognize the generations of people who helped build the congregation over the years.
“We are deeply grateful for the generations of faithful people who built this church and carried its ministry forward,” Brown said. “The people who have helped shape our history have also been the greatest champions of our future.”
One Church’s mission is to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus, while its vision is to see just one more person encounter God, experience belonging and make a difference.
The church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God.
Community members are invited to attend One Church’s Sunday worship gatherings at 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.
