The lacrosse community in Niceville is growing, and three local teams are joining forces to give area children a chance to learn from some of the sport’s best.
The Florida Raptors will hold their inaugural lacrosse tryouts from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 15, at Twin Oaks in Niceville. The event will also feature a free community clinic for local kids.
Professional lacrosse player Myles Jones will lead drills during the event alongside Navy lacrosse legend Gary Quackenbush.
Organizers say the event is designed to introduce more children to lacrosse while bringing together the growing lacrosse community around the Niceville area.
The Florida Raptors’ inaugural tryouts will provide an opportunity for players interested in joining the team to showcase their skills, while the free clinic will give younger players a chance to learn fundamentals, participate in drills and experience the sport in a welcoming environment.
The event is part of an effort by local lacrosse organizations to build on the sport’s growing popularity in the Niceville area and create more opportunities for young athletes to get involved.
For families interested in learning more about lacrosse — or for young players who simply want to give the sport a try — the August 15 event offers a chance to get on the field and learn from experienced players and coaches.
