Destin councilwoman arrested after allegedly driving stranger’s truck from boat ramp

A Destin City Councilwoman was arrested on July 4 after she allegedly got into and drove someone else’s truck.

According to the arrest warrant from the Okaloosa County Police Department, Mayor Pro Tempore Teresa Hebert was charged with Trespassing on Conveyance just before noon on July 4.

According to the warrant affidavit, the victim, William Brand Hoffa IV, had parked his vehicle at a boat ramp at 800 Beach Dr. when Hebert got into his truck, with a trailer attached, and drove it 50 yards forward.

“The VICTIM chased after the DEFENDANT to get her to stop,” the affidavit states. “The DEFENDANT told the VICTIM she took the vehicle because he was ‘taking too long and he needed to move.’ The VICTIM confirmed the DEFENDANT did not have any permission to operate his vehicle.”

Hebert allegedly admitted to the arresting officer that she did gain entry to the truck and move it without permission, but she could not be reached for comment.

The City of Destin’s Public Information Director, Tamara Young, declined to comment on behalf of the City Council as the incident is still under investigation.

Hebert’s victim, however, quickly took to Facebook on July 4 to share his experience.

“I had to park my boat to pull my truck out of the ramp,” Hoffa said in a post. “As I was getting back to my ramp an old lady who claimed to be a councilwoman in Destin pulled off in my truck. I was literally chasing this b$&!h who thought it was ok to drive my truck!”

Hoffa declined to comment further, saying all information he can share is already public.

The case is an active investigation and Mid Bay News will continue to report as it progresses.
