Baker School has been named the recipient of the 2025-2026 Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award for the Rural Classification by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), one of the state’s highest honors recognizing excellence in sportsmanship and character across an entire athletic program. Named in honor of former FHSAA Commissioner Fred E. Rozelle, the award recognizes schools whose coaches, student-athletes, spectators, and communities exemplify outstanding sportsmanship both on and off the field. Recipients are selected based on their commitment to promoting sportsmanship through school and community programs, exceptional sportsmanship reports, and overall conduct throughout the athletic season.
“This award reflects the heart of Baker School and the values that define our athletic programs,” said John Carlisle, Baker School Athletic Director. “Our student-athletes, coaches, families, and community members consistently demonstrate integrity, respect, and perseverance. We are incredibly honored to be recognized by the FHSAA and proud of the example our students set both in competition and in the classroom.” Baker School’s athletic programs emphasize character development, leadership, teamwork, accountability, and respect – qualities that extend far beyond athletic competition and prepare students for success in life.
“We are proud to celebrate this recognition because it speaks to the culture of excellence that exists throughout Baker School,” said Mike Martello, Principal of Baker School. “This honor belongs to every student-athlete who has worn a Baker uniform, every coach who has invested in young people, every parent who has supported our programs, and every community member who has cheered from the stands. Together, we have built something special.”
Superintendent Marcus Chambers stated, “The Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award is about much more than winning games; it is about developing young people of character. Baker School has long been known for its strong traditions, community support, and commitment to excellence. This award is a testament to the student-athletes, coaches, administrators, families, and community members who represent Baker and Okaloosa County with pride, integrity, and sportsmanship every day.”
