BREAKING: Adron Robinson named Niceville Eagles football coach

This is a developing story and we will update it as more information becomes available.

Niceville Varsity Boys football assistant and Girls Flag Football Head Coach Adron Robinson will serve as the next head coach of the school’s storied football program.

Robinson was selected from a field of 23 candidates who submitted their applications to become the leader of the team. Two other assistants also applied for the chance to lead the Eagles.

“No one has deeper roots with Niceville Eagle football than Coach Adron Robinson and he was the unanimous selection of our hiring committee,” said Niceville High School principal Charlie Marello.

The Eagles are coming off a 2025 season that had ups and downs. Downs included a 42-7 loss to Choctaw and a loss to rivals Crestview and Mosley at home. But the highlight of the year came at the end when an 8-seeded Eagles team took top dog Ponte Vedra to overtime before falling.

Niceville QB Club President Heath Rominger who played with Robinson on the 1988 State Title Team added, “Congrats to coach Robinson for his selection as head coach at a program he helped build. This is a well-deserved opportunity.”

Previous head coach Richard Morgan lasted just a single season as the leader of the Niceville High School team.

More About Adron Robinson

Coach Adron Robinson played football at Lewis Middle School and then at Niceville High School. Robinson was a two-way starter on the Niceville High School State Championship Football team in 1988, which won the title at home at the Eagles Nest.

After high school, Robinson joined the Army and would eventually return to coach at Niceville. He joined the coaching staff at Niceville in 2010 and has compiled a 146-47 record under head coaches John Hicks, Grant Thompson, and Richard Morgan. Robinson has never ended a season without a playoff game. He’s coached his alma mater in four total state semifinal games – winning one of them.

Team and fan reaction

The locker room has given a positive review of the selection, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Still, other people have eyed the appointment with both optimism and nervousness, as high school transfer rules are notoriously loose in Florida. Those people are waiting to see how spring practice goes before judging the move. “He’s a great guy,” said one parent familiar with the situation, “let’s see how spring ball goes and how many kids transfer.”

Shawn Yabui, the team videographer, dropped a positive note on our social media about the pick – as did Jodie Wilkey who said, “I screamed in joy when I heard this! No one better!
