The Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) is inviting members of the community to attend a Bus Driver Job Fair on Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Crestview High School, located at 1250 North Ferdon Boulevard. The district hopes to attract qualified applicants to help fill critical school transportation positions across Okaloosa County.
The event will give potential applicants a hands-on opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a school bus driver — including the chance to test-drive a bus under the supervision of district staff. Representatives from OCSD’s Human Resources Department will be available on-site to answer questions, guide attendees through the application process, and discuss training and employment opportunities.
According to the district, paid training is available to help new hires obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), a requirement for all school bus drivers. The program is designed to make it easier for interested individuals to transition into the role, even if they do not currently hold a CDL.
To encourage applicants, OCSD is offering hiring incentives for new drivers. Those who already have a valid CDL will be eligible for a $2,400 hiring bonus, while new hires without a CDL will receive a $2,000 bonus. Both bonuses are paid in increments after employment begins.
District officials emphasized that school bus drivers play a vital part in the educational system, safely transporting thousands of Okaloosa County students to and from school each day. Drivers also play an important role in maintaining consistent attendance and supporting extracurricular activities by providing transportation to after-school events and athletic programs.
The district continues to face challenges in maintaining a full staff of qualified drivers, a situation shared by school systems across Florida and the nation. The upcoming job fair is part of an ongoing effort to address transportation needs and ensure reliable service for students and families.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about pay rates, benefits, schedules, and the overall responsibilities that come with being a member of the OCSD transportation team. Those interested in joining the district as a bus driver can apply during the event or contact the Okaloosa County School District Human Resources Department for more information.
