FORT WALTON BEACH — A Fort Walton Beach man was killed Saturday afternoon after being struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle along a sidewalk on U.S. Highway 98, police said.

The incident occurred around 4:31 p.m. on August 2, in front of 236 Miracle Strip Parkway SW, near the Misty Breeze Condominiums.

According to the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, 45-year-old Jason Turpen was riding his bicycle westbound on the south side sidewalk of U.S. 98 when he was hit by a black Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Paul Taylor.

Turpen was transported to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, officials confirmed.

Police have not released additional details about how the crash occurred, but say the investigation remains active.
