The Niceville High School boys and girls varsity tennis teams won the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A District 1 championships. Head Coach Chris Poate and Assistant Coach Brian Braziel led both teams.
The boys’ varsity roster includes Zavier Barbary, Andrew Roberts, Cole Hawkins, Sean Wingenbach, Ben Converse, Noah Stickler, and Ritvik Bommena. The girls’ varsity roster includes Annaliese Drab, Audrey Hill, Eleanor Randolph, Callie Dellemarre, Aspen Baker, Savannah McQuoat, Josie Harper, Jocelyn Wheeler, Katerina Roberts, Keira Dubay, and Natalie Swanson.
This win comes shortly after both teams competed in the 2025 Junior Varsity Tallahassee Tournament, where the NHS girls’ team earned the title of JV Tournament Champions. According to a post shared on the team’s Facebook page, the NHS girls competed with only five players on Day 1 of the tournament, which required six singles lines. As a result, the team forfeited the sixth line and the associated three points. Despite this, all five competing players advanced to the finals.
On Day 2 of the tournament, the girls played with just four athletes during the doubles competition, which required three doubles lines. The team again forfeited the third line, giving up three more potential points. Despite the shortage, the team won both line 1 and line 2 doubles rounds. They secured the tournament win by repeating those victories in a tiebreaker round.
The district championship marks a continuation of success for the program and advances both teams into regional competition under the FHSAA playoff structure.
