Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass will return to his alma mater, Northwest Florida State College, as the Spring Commencement speaker on May 9.
Glass, a 1991 graduate of NWFSC, is scheduled to speak at both of the college’s commencement ceremonies, which will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Raider Arena. No tickets are required for attendance.
“Northwest Florida State College is proud to welcome home Commissioner Glass, and we all look forward to hearing his inspired words to a new generation of Raider alumni,” said NWFSC President Mel Ponder in a statement announcing the event.
Glass has more than three decades of experience in federal and state service. He has worked as a law enforcement officer, military officer, national intelligence officer, federal supervisor, and senior executive.
A 30-year veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, Glass served as a pilot in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. His military career included command roles with the Florida Army National Guard, District of Columbia National Guard, and the U.S. Army. He retired from Fort Rucker, Alabama, and is a master aviator who earned two meritorious service medals.
Before being appointed FDLE Commissioner, Glass led the Florida Capitol Police and oversaw security operations for the Florida Lottery.
He has also held intelligence and counterterrorism roles, including service on the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and the U.S. Attorney’s Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council. He previously represented the Department of Homeland Security to Florida’s executive and legislative branches and served as the state’s homeland security adviser through the Florida Fusion Center.
Glass holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology from Florida State University. In 2018, NWFSC presented him with the Distinguished Alumni Award. He currently serves on the Florida Board of Directors for the American Legion Boys State.
