Charlotte Walsh, a sixth grader at Rocky Bayou Christian School, was presented with a Life Saving Award during a ceremony at the Niceville Police Department. The department also named her an honorary officer for her actions.
According to school officials, Walsh responded when another sixth-grade student began choking during lunch on March 10. She performed the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged the obstruction and allowed the student to breathe again.
