Northwest Florida is gearing up for the highly anticipated Eglin Gate To Gate Memorial Run/Walk, a cherished tradition in our area as we remember the men and women who died fighting for the United States.
On Saturday, May 27, at 7 a.m., participants will gather near Unity Park on Eglin Air Force Base for the 4.4-mile race.
The Gate To Gate Memorial Run/Walk is open to individuals of all ages, inviting members of the general public to embrace the spirit of friendly competition and commemorate the significance of this event.
Participants can look forward to a refreshing race that begins and ends near Unity Park, offering a scenic and challenging route that showcases the area’s natural beauty.
Once the race concludes, everyone, including participants and spectators, is invited to relish in the after-party festivities at Unity Park. Attendees can indulge in complimentary refreshments while enjoying lively entertainment. Additionally, an awards presentation will recognize the top finishers in various age categories, adding a touch of prestige to this memorable event.
For the younger ones, there is an exciting opportunity to participate in the Free Kids Run, scheduled for 9 a.m. and open to children between the ages of 5 and 12. This segment ensures that the whole family can get involved and create lasting memories together.
To take part in the Gate To Gate Memorial Run/Walk, interested individuals are encouraged to register promptly. Online registration closed on Monday, May 22. But you still have a day to register in person. For those with base access, in-person registration is available until Friday, May 26, at the Eglin Fitness Center. However, please note that registration will not be possible on the day of the race, and cash or check payments will not be accepted at any time.
Registered participants can collect their race packets, which include a racer’s bib number, a complimentary event t-shirt, a beverage voucher, and other goodies at specified times and locations. Packet pick-up will be available on Monday and Tuesday, May 22-23, at the Eglin Main Fitness Center and Wednesday and Thursday, May 24-25, at the Air Force Armament Museum.
On Friday, May 26, participants can pick up their packets at the Eglin Main Fitness Center. On the day of the race, Saturday, May 27, packet pick-up will occur at Unity Park between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. It is important to bring a valid photo ID for packet pick-up. Participants can also register in person during the designated times and locations, except on race day. Please note that participants who register after May 10 may not be guaranteed an event t-shirt.
On the event day, non-Department of Defense (DoD) participants should enter through the West Gate on Highway 189 near the Air Force Armament Museum. All participants need to be present at the start line, located at the corner of Chinquapin Drive and Eglin Boulevard, no later than 6:30 a.m., ensuring a prompt and organized start to the race.

The Calm Furniture Store, located on Redwood Drive, behind Circle K on John Sims Parkway, will have its grand opening celebration on May 27. You can swing by, get furniture for cheap and support a good cause!
The store is open from 9a-1p on Saturday, so you could in theory, get your run in at Eglin and then hop over to buy some used furniture!
