A Fort Walton Beach man is facing federal drug trafficking charges after a grand jury indicted him on allegations involving a large quantity of fentanyl.
Federal prosecutors announced that Aubrey Darnell Joseph, Sr., 35, of Fort Walton Beach, has been indicted on one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and one count of possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, Joseph appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Hope Thai Cannon in Pensacola for his arraignment. His trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 3, 2026, at 8 a.m. before U.S. District Judge M. Casey Rodgers in Pensacola.
If convicted, Joseph faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and up to life imprisonment on each count.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica S. Etherton and Alicia H. Forbes are prosecuting the case.
Federal officials emphasized that an indictment is not a finding of guilt. It is a formal accusation returned by a grand jury, and Joseph is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the prosecution is part of the federal Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative, a multi-agency effort focused on disrupting criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other organized crimes.
