Five Northwest Florida Raiders and former Raiders will have a shot at the big leagues after this year’s Major League Baseball Draft took place in Fort Worth, Texas.
Pitcher Mack Estrada (New York Yankees), Shortstop Colby Jones (Atlanta Braves), and Outfielder Chase Williams(LA Dodgers) got the call in the 11th, 13th, and 19th rounds, respectively.
The trio were Northwest Florida State College Team members that made it to the Junior College World Series final earlier this year.
Former Raiders Ramsey David (Houston Astros) and Will Cannon (Cincinnati Reds) were also drafted this year.
“We are proud to see these Raiders getting a change to chase their dream of playing professional baseball,” said head coach Doug Martin, “Not bad for a small JUCO program in Niceville, Florida to have five guys selected in this years’draft. [I] give credit to the players for taking advantage of an opportunity given to them and making the most out of it.”
