DESTIN — Four people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries on June 12 after a touring helicopter crashed on the runway at Destin Executive Airport, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO).
According to a social media post by the OCSO, emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 6:45 p.m. The sheriff’s office said all four individuals on board the helicopter were transported to a local hospital.
The OCSO Airport Security Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
“We are grateful there were no serious injuries and thank all responding agencies for their quick and coordinated efforts,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Mid Bay News reached out to Okaloosa County for more information. According to an Okaloosa County spokesman, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are en route to investigate the accident.
Destin Executive Airport will remain closed until further notice.
