FORT WALTON BEACH — The city’s sanitation department announced Wednesday that it will double the frequency of residential trash collection beginning October 5. According to the department, the move will provide two trash pickups per week for all residential customers, while recycling and yard waste collection will continue on a weekly basis. The city has branded the updated schedule as its “2-1-1 service.”
Under the new plan, households with Monday trash service will have a second pickup added on Thursday. Residents with Tuesday service will have a second collection day on Friday. City officials noted that while recycling pickup remains weekly, the specific collection day may have changed for some residents. A revised recycling schedule has been posted to the city’s website. Yard waste collection days will remain unchanged.
The announcement did not specify the reason for the increased service or whether it will be accompanied by any change in sanitation fees for residents.
